    Climate science studies clearly reveal that Earth Systems (ESs) and Human Systems (HSs) impact with respect to each other, and HSs produce anthropogenic climate process drivers by greenhouse gas and aerosol emissions. Given that ESs provide resources and environments for human living and development, while global change brings out severe local climate abnormality, what is the adaptive strategy for us local people? Also, two scientific questions are at the front of climate science community: 1) how global change impacts on local weather-climate anomalies, and 2) how local weather-climate perturbations feed back to the large scale background? After showing the development plan and status of Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (QNLM) on earth modeling and predictions to address these issues, this talk will discuss the significant challenges and potential solutions.

    張紹晴,原美國國家海洋大氣管理局(NOAA)研究員,現任中國海洋大學“築峰第一層次”特聘教授,青島國家海洋科學與技術實驗室“鼇山人才”卓越科學家,"泰山人才"特聘專家。在大氣—海洋耦合資料同化和初始化研究方面作出過傑出貢獻,曾榮獲NOAA傑出研究論文獎、美國聯邦商業部研究和發展金牌獎。在自然子刊和氣候雜誌等多種國際期刊上發表研究論文逾70篇。受邀在英國裡丁大學、挪威貝爾根大學、美國夏威夷大學、日本東京大學、韓國首爾大學等多地開展學術演講和授課。其設計的“全球氣候耦合資料同化系統”,作為NOAA氣候預報系統代表,參加聯合國政府間氣候變化專門委員會第5次評估報告,是全球唯一能一致性描述季節-年際到年代際變化的氣候預報預測系統。
